ICD-10 and CPT search that keeps pace with the chart
iMedicare now retrieves the right diagnosis and procedure codes from clinical language, using RAG and vector search instead of static code lists.
The challenge
Coding teams were losing time in ICD-10 and CPT lookup. Keyword search missed synonyms, laterality, and procedure variants, so charts slowed at the last mile and reviewers spent energy reconciling near-matches.
How we worked
Palmarius connected the iMedicare coding workspace to a governed knowledge layer: embeddings over approved code sets and clinical documentation, retrieval-augmented generation for explainable suggestions, and a search experience built around how clinicians actually describe an encounter.
What we delivered
Vector search ranks relevant ICD-10 and CPT candidates from natural-language notes. RAG grounds each suggestion in retrieved code guidance, so the product can explain why a code appeared. Coders validate in context instead of paging through static lists.
“ICD-10 and CPT used to mean scrolling and second-guessing. With vector search and RAG on iMedicare, the right codes surface from the way we already describe the encounter, and we can see the source behind the suggestion.”Anjali Sathe, Clinical coding lead, iMedicareBack to all stories
